We are pleased to announce the second solo exhibition at Tashkeel by Wissam Shawkat @wissamshawkat, titled Disciplined Insurgence: Beyond the Norm in Letters Form, opening 22 January at 7 PM. The exhibition will reflect back on Shawkat’s pioneering career while maintaining a modern stance with the inclusion of current works. Whilst not a retrospective as such, it contains pieces from several series using his eponymous Al Wissam script as well as new experiments with the classic Thuluth script. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
‘Disciplined Insurgence’ will also include pieces from Calligraforms, a body of work that fuses calligraphy and abstract letter forms. In this, Shawkat focused not only on the individual letters’ precise forms, but also on the abstract shapes generated by examining the geometric spaces inside and outside of their structures.

يسرّ “تشكيل” الإعلان عن المعرض الفردي الثاني في المركز للفنان وسام شوكت والذي يحمل عنوان: “التمرّد المنضبط: الخروج عن المألوف في أشكال الحروف”، وذلك يوم الثلاثاء، ٢٢ يناير في تمام الساعة ٧ مساءً. يعكس المعرض المسيرة الرائدة للفنان في الخط العربي وطريقة حفاظه على موقفه العصري في أعماله الفنية. يشتمل على أعمال من عدة مجموعات صمّمها ونفذها باستخدام خطّ “الوسام” الذي ابتتكره بنفسه وسمّي تيمّناً باسمه، فضلاً عن أعمال جديدة بخطّ “الثلث” التقليدي المعروف.

يتضمن المعرض أعمالاً من مجموعة “الكاليغرافورمز”، وهي مجموعة من التصاميم جمع بين الصفات الغرافيكية الموجودة في الخط وفي الأشكال التجريدية للحروف الكلاسيكية. لا يركز شوكت في أعماله على التفاصيل الدقيقة لشكل الحرف فقط، بل يبرز الأشكال التجريدية الناتجة عن فحص المساحات الهندسية داخل وخارج بناينه.
