The vertical calligraphy composition of this Basmala started in the year 2000 when I was still in Basra, Iraq, I tried to do a composition in Jali Diwani, and instead of going horizontally as the norm in Jali Diwani compositions where you have almost two horizontal lines that guide the calligraphy between them , I wanted to do something never done before and different, where I have the words sit between 2 vertical lines. The sketch which stayed in pencil till I moved to Dubai UAE after 2 years where I sat down again and decided to make it work and created my known tall Jali Diwani Basmala, after that I created many artworks in the same way.
